1988 is a classic, old-school year, more about cedar, finesse, and structure than raw power. Which, honestly, is very Lafite.
The 1988 vintage is all about restraint, detail, and aristocratic balance. Now fully mature, it shows layered aromatics of cassis, dried blackcurrant, cigar box, graphite, and cedar, with tertiary notes of leather, tobacco leaf, forest floor, and subtle truffle emerging with air.
On the palate, it’s medium-bodied and refined, with Lafite’s signature silky texture and a long, savoury finish. The fruit has softened into a more dried, earthy blackcurrant profile, and the structure remains present. This is a wine for those who love mature Bordeaux with nuance and quiet authority.

Terroir
Most of the hard work it takes to produce quality wine happens in the vinyard. The soil, the climatic conditions, the aspect, the bodies of water and many more factors, collectively knwon as "terroir" can influence the flavour of wine and give wine distint minerality, depth and character.
